It has a rich naval tradition and is a popular sailing destination. In ancient times, the island was known as Hydrea, derived from the Greek word for water, a reference to the natural springs on the island. As it is surrounded by the clear turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea, there are plenty of places where you can take a dip.
It has a picturesque cobble stoned harbour, hillside mansions, sparkling seas and a relaxed arty feel. With more cats than people living on the island, it is not spoiled by mass tourism yet and sticks to its origin and traditions.
